m xtremly weak in physics specially d mechanics part...so m tryin 2 do things lyk nuclear physics..electrostats..heat..thermodyanamics..
is dat gonna help??
i seriously wanna clear jee..

JEEnius said...

Remember one thing shubhi, right now, you have only a week left. You have to revise all the concepts that you have learned so far. We would say, don't pick a new major topic now. Though, you can decide to easy topics like nuclear physics which don't take much time to go through.
Also, being weak in physics doesn't have to stop you from clearing JEE. If you just clear the cut-off in your weak subject and do really well in other subjects then also you can clear JEE easily. But again you have to keep all the 3 subjects in mind when going for the exam. You should concentrate on your strong points during and just before the exam.
All the best to you! (Revise the old concepts and learn only easy concepts now, don't do the tough ones now. Remember, you have to be 100% confident for the exam!)

Sameep said...

And besides that electrostats is an important topic.My personal experience says the trend is changing.Earlier there were big lengthy questions from topics like mechanics etc
but now basic-concept based, no-solving-required type question are easily spotted in the paper. Even mechanics has such questions.Try not to miss them plus do a bit tough ones from electrostats. that should do the job. Remember its not like JEE will prefer you if you do good in mechanics, it just needs marks. No matter which topic yields them.

@shubhi: Are you good in Chem?

saurabh said...

yeah electromagnetism is very simple and has a very high weightage refer vol 2 resinick & halliday answer the thought problems at the end of the chapters.

is it necessary to be very good in all subjects to clear IIT
i am good in chemistry but not in maths do i have chances?

Anonymous said...

why is the font size so small?
i cannot read it well
plz change it..
:)

JEEnius said...

@Saurabh
Yes, you are correct. Thanks for the addition.

@Vaibhavdxt Even I had the same problem in my JEE year. The key to this is solving as many papers as you can. Try to simulate the real exam type environment. Take each question and "finish" it before you move on to the next question. Most importantly, have faith in yourself during the exam that you will be able to solve all the questions.
All the best!

JEEnius said...

@Anonymous 1
Cracking JEE does not require you to excel in all 3 subjects. If you are exceptional at one subject, then that helps you a lot if you are not so good in the other two. But you cannot neglect any subject at all.
You can afford to be average in one if you have above average scores in other but to be honest if you totally screw up in one subject, it'll cost you.

Hey,what do i do to get my confidence back?...i was rank 2\3 in my coaching in 11th,and in 12th also i fared well in Brilliant Test Series...but then i heard they were made easy to build your confidence....so i am now feeling depressed and unconfident...pls help!!

siddharth said...

u guys are doing a great job. thanks for the tips bhaiya.

JEEnius said...

@suicidal
you were rank 2/3 in your coaching class!
firsta of all thats awesome!
see even if the papers were easy only you could be the topper throughout the 2 years
& brilliant tests are easier than FIITJEE but they are actually good
those tests helped me a lot atleast
there is nothing to be depressed about you are doing very good in your class & also in Brilliant then just revise now in the final days
thats all you need to do now no need to be depressed & think am i talented enough & stuff!

JEEnius is doing a great job in helping us, IIT aspirants.
Also, tell us the do's and dont's we have to follow during the paper on Sunday.
As in, the amount of marks we need to score in each paper, the questions we need to attempt first, the time weightage we need to give individual subjects or indi questions.
Thanks a lot! And keep up the good work.

JEEnius said...

@sumit Paul
thanks for appreciating!
you asked a lots of questions all together
see on the exam day only thing i can say is dont panic
just go in the exam & do whatever you feel correct
oversee the paper once & then try to solve questions which you feel easy or of easy topics or of topics you are strong at
there are some questions you should not miss
remember one thing don't get stuck on a question for a long time & if you feel the paper is hard for you don't be depressed it will be hard for everyone else too..
do well & don't panic..
Best wishes! :)

Me a bit confused.I have heard of people around me studying for 16 hours a day.Still ! year to go for JEE.Am I supposed t obr studying for 26 hours a day?does that really help?and I m good at conceptual part but when it comes to problem solving...I m done.I merely can solve a problem.WHile I can write the concepts from start to end if you want me to.Only I am weak at is appliance.

JEEnius said...

@Soumya
its very good you have started to study..
Its never too late or never too early for studying
I suggest you make a time table.
The main purpose of this would be very different.Frankly speaking, you wont be able to stick to it for long.But dont scratch it. It will help you to understand how much you are deviating from your course that you had decided.Also you will always have peer pressure. Never succumb to it.

About the board subjects, you can allot some time of your day for it. It can be 90:10 or 80:20 or just do IIT stuff now & when exams approach completely focus on boards.
I went with the latter plan. Try to devote as much time as possible to clear all your fundamentals.They are useful even in JEE. Develop some subject as your strong point & work on other subjects for somewhat less time than your strong point.
Make your strong subject stronger but don't let your other subjects weaken.
Have an awesome luck.

JEEnius said...

@Shubhi
As i expected you are good in Chemistry.You have the subject that makes the difference on your side.Take advantage of that and make sure you do not miss on any solvable question in Chem at least. Have an awesome luck.

@Soumya
I would like to add to whatever I said.The thing is that the pattern of JEE questions is changing over the past few years.
now-a-days they are shifting their focus from high-level solved-by-only-few type of questions to very basic questions which can be solved only if you have understood the concepts thoroughly. So I would recommend you to go through CBSE level concepts too while studying for JEE. Don't think the two as different courses, just different levels of same course.
Have an awesome luck.

JEEnius said...

@siddharth

Thanks for your appreciation.
And please don't call us bhaiya/sir etc.(Here in IIT Kharagpur also no one is supposed to call their seniors as sir/bhaiya etc. We use names to address poeple. So please address us JEEnius.)

JEEnius said...

@Sumeet

Sure JEE requires hard work but that doesn't mean you have to study that much. Judge your study by Quality not Quantity. Be balanced in your routine. Do everything including Playing, Watching TV, Orkuting etc but keeping in mind your ultimate goal.A focused study of 5-6 hours on an average( But a bit more in the last month) should do the job.
You know your capacity. Study as much as you can staying under your physical limits.
S.M.A.R.T i.e. Start Maintaining A Routine Timetable and try to stick to it.
Have an awesome luck.

Kartiks doubt

"Sir,I found the YG File Organic part somewhat tough and OUT OF COURSE...they mention reactions and rearrangements that are not in JEE course!.......does my finding the YG Organic tough mean that i wont get good rank in jEE?..please be frank!!!..."

First of all as I already said, no SIR no BHAIYA.

YG file is made to be tough. It has selected questions out of which some are useful but many of the are absolutely useless.I am not badmouthing/endorsing anyone but my personal experience says Narayana/Career point/FIITJEE have a good level and type of questions.
I have been a student of both Brilliant and Narayana.I found Narayana to be better than Brilliant.I think Brilliant uses YG file to showoff its level of education but it doesn't mean YG file is a must for all JEE aspirants.I have IITian friends who never even touched it.On the other hand, you finding only org chem tough and other parts easy may also reflect shortcomings on your part.
Concentrate on your strong points and give JEE with full confidence.
Have an awesome luck!

hey firstly, you guys are doing a gr8 job!
so kudos to you!
what i wanted to know was,
is there any specification for the pen to be used?since the evaluation is based on optical reading is it advisable 2 take a pen with a larger tip so as to shade more in lesser time?
also,i've heard ppl sayin that u have to press and shade otherwise the reader can not read the marking,
how far is it true? can v just shade lightly n make sure that the entire circle is covered?

n m mightily embarrsd abt it..
i dunno wat 2 say 2 the juniors if i encounter them there..i kno its a minor issue but its jus gettin me worried plzz help!

JEEnius said...

@anonymous
Let me tell you something first. Almost 40% of the people who get through JEE are second timers (droppers). You don't have to be embarrassed or worried about anything. You don't have to say anything to the juniors. It is your aim to get through JEE and no one can come in the way.
All the best!

Raghavendra said...

JEEnius, your site has been very useful to me. I am determined to come one in top ten in the IIT-JEE, maybe even the 1st, it might be too much to aspire, but yet I wish not 2 lose hope.

My query was, I am very good at all 3 subjects, I cleared my 10th boards this year. I will b going 2 a boarding school next year. I will be coached under the T.I.M.E institute. I have already completed 1/5 of all 3 subjects of my class 11 textbook on my own without doubts. My prob. is that, I heard that only students from Brilliant tutorials have been scoring 1st in the country for the past 2 decades! I lost confidence by this. I need your help. Can I still aspire for for my goal?!

Also, what is the difference between paper 1 & paper 2 in the JEE?
Please answer me soon, I will be waiting!

JEEnius said...

@Raghavendra

Hats off to your confidence!!!

Lemme clarify. These coaching instis have been in the industry for a long long time now.And they have learned some tactics. The most common and effective one is the one BT is using for the past two decades.

What they often do is, as soon as they come to know about the topper, they purchase him/her.By this I mean that they pay him and ask him to say that he was a student of theirs. Obviously the topper will accept it (because of the huge sum they offer).

They ask them to say that they were a part of courses no one even knows exist.Notice very few toppers are from classroom courses.
So don't lose confidence because of this little fact.

I ll come back to your second question in some time.

Raghavendra said...

Thanks, your advice has been very helpful (honestly!). I will definitely keep that in mind. I also wanted to ask you, apart from my study material(and my hard work, of course), what all will I need to come as a topper? {sorry 2 burden u with questions but...} How was the JEE-2009 paper? The newspaper spoke about a surprising number of numerical problems... any idea about that?

Raghavendra said...

Also, I forgot to ask, is MIT better than IIT? True, it does promote more research and it is a foreign institute. I is also rated as the best Institute of Technology in the world, but I wish to know your opinion. Do you think that me being an Indian student will give me a better scope in IIT or MIT?

I will be waiting...

JEEnius said...

@Raghavendra
To become a topper, apart from the things you mentioned, I guess what you'll require the most is determination and faith. There will be times when you'll feel that you might not achieve your goal, but what will keep you going on would be determination and faith. So be determined and have faith!
If all your concepts are clear, and you have practiced a lot of questions, then the question paper really will not affect your performance. It will not matter whether the question paper has more objective problems or subjective problems

MIT is is the best technological institute in the world. Why not many Indians go there is because 1) it is very very costly
2) it is tough to get in there as well
The number of scholarships available are less in number and the tuition fees is beyond the affordability of most of the students. So, IIT works out to be the best option.

Raghavendra said...

Thanks, I shall remember that

Raghunath said...

1. I am stuck in a bit of a situation or I think I am. First of all, is BRILLIANT TUTORIALS good?

2. I have enrolled for Brilliant Tutorials correspondence course and TIME's regular class.

You see, I am going to a residential school, where professors from TIME will be coaching me for the JEE but aprt from that I have also enrolled for Brilliant's correspondence.

Is it not a problem? I am however ready to work as hard as possible to crack the JEE with great points.

3. Which is the most tough engineering disciple, i.e in terms of core concepts, use of maths, syllabus, high scope etc. The question might seem foolish but some of the Engineering courses would fall in this list. Also, this is in the point of view of a student who loves maths especially along with many topics in physics and a large number of topics in chemistry.

It would be very kind of you to answer.
